Hey guys! I hope you’re all doing well. Here is my initial ideas and sketches for your brief:

Idea 1: Interactive Digital Literacy Tablet
We can design an interface for a tablet that is designed to slowly educate elderly who are not familiar with technology at all by preliminary technological lessons that will introduce concepts and make them be practicable on the tablet also. Following that, they will be able to access specialized interface lessons for apps, phones, computers about tutorials for banking actions, healthcare appointments, mails, messages, calls etc.
Idea 2: Digital Literacy Handbook
Since the elderly is not famliar with technology at all we can introduce them a good old solution that they are familiar with: reading! With a hardback handbook design they will be able to learn essential technology and digital literacy tips that are specialized for their wants and needs. Since the handbook will cover any device that they may interact with, they will be able to practice the info they learn on the devices they own.

The points of our critiques are simple:
• the problem of digital illiteracy must be solved at the root, so it is not enough just to create an easy-to-use tablet, but to create something that educates the elderly
• the idea of the manual is as simple as it is effective
So, as a customer, we ask you to implement something that can instruct seniors to support (or put in) the tablet.
We suggest creating a packaging of an artifact that is purchasable at the price of the budget we gave you, and that can be advertised as a set of an encyclopedia and an easy-to-use tablet. There is already the “Nonny” which is a tablet identical to the one designed by Başak Akkurt. Simply invent a nice way to add it to an encyclopedia with tutorials of the various buttons, remembering what was said above about learning by doing.
Small request: a loading bar to monitor the degree of education, as in the Kindles it shows “you are at 67% of the book’s reading”. This bar could represent learning by doing very well graphically.
