• Goal: Team 12 gave us the task of creating a display windows for display china, crochet work and trinkets which is capable of maintaining hygiene and organization, but at the same time is beautiful and modern. With this in mind we propose the following concepts:

Concept 1

Let’s start with this first concept of display windows. In this concept we suggest something simplistic, a box shaped like a parallelepiped and with a more modern design. The materials to be used would be wood or MDF (white) and iron or some type of metal resistant to weight (blue and pink). Organization: to keep the display windows organized, we divided it into three parts: the left part is the smallest space on the display that will be used to place smaller objects such as cups, chicaras, small plates and some decoration; the middle part is open to allow highlighting objects to be stuck on the wall and on the floor you can place the heaviest objects from the entire collection with large and heavy vases; On the right side, you can place larger sized deliveries, trays, bowls, etc. In order to facilitate organization, we would use shelves or organizers for plates, bowls and glasses that are normally sold separately, but in this case they would be adapted to the display, but would be removable. To maintain hygiene, the idea is to minimize the space to be cleaned. Through the use of the aforementioned removable supports that are easy to clean. The display would be covered in glass on the front and sides to allow better viewing of the pieces, the doors would also be made of glass with sliding doors, and their ends would have rubber reinforcements similar to those used in refrigerators. The idea is to create something similar to a safe that does not even allow air to enter, preventing dust from accumulating. At the end I would add LED lights so that the pieces can be seen even at night when the lights are off.

Concept 2

As our main areas of concerns are flexibility, aesthetic and cleanliness we would like to offer a display window in a classical theme with a modern design. We would like to add pull out shelves for the window to increase user accessibility, incorporated with mood lighting. The doors are recommended to be made up of glass wooden borders in a classical design to compliment the overall theme of the house .

Concept 3

In this design, the main objective is aesthetic beauty in combination with minimalism, while maintaining cleanliness and convenience. Therefore, the main goal is to achieve complete sealing from the external space to avoid dust accumulation. Although the structure will predominantly consist of glass, the primary objective will be preserved.

Usually, when the doors of a cabinet close tightly to each other, over time, as one door slightly descends, it loses its original shape, making it difficult to close the cabinet doors. Similarly, if the gap is made slightly larger to avoid such difficulties, dust enters through the opening. Thus, in this design variant, it is proposed that one cabinet door closes on top of the other, and thin seals (similar to those in refrigerators) are placed along the edges.

If these requirements are specified according to the rules, the following can be formulated:

  1. The presence of gaps should be avoided.
  2. Equip the edges of the doors with rubber seals containing magnets inside.
  3. Also, place magnets or iron along the edges of the cabinet body, so that when the doors are closed, they remain secured without gaps.
  4. Ensure a stable construction using high-quality materials.
  5. Use mirrored lining on the walls to create a captivating 3D effect of the items on the shelves, etc. You can find more detailed information in the design prototype.

Hey! Thank you for your different and innovative ideas. If we come to my feedback, I really liked the idea in the first concept of dividing the showcase into three separate parts and assigning a position to each object. After all, easy access to an item inside the showcase is very important. With modular parts that can be removed and attached, a person can design their showcase according to their preferences and the objects they want to display. The detail of the pull-out shelves in the second concept also seems very practical. I recommend blending this detail with the first concept design. However, we are not only looking for practicality in the showcase. In the third concept, I believe that mirrors placed on the walls and modern handles used in the third concept; and the wooden borders used in the frame of the showcase in the second concept; along with the LED lighting in both concepts, will contribute significantly aesthetically. For hygiene reasons, there should definitely be no air inlet to prevent dust, and I think the use of rubber reinforcements, as in refrigerator doors, would work well for this. If thin brown rubbers, as used in the third concept, are used, this issue can be easily addressed. Overall, I really liked the ideas you provided! When creating the final concept, I tried to share with you the things I liked and would like you to use from these three ideas. If there is anything you didn’t understand, feel free to ask for a more detailed explanation. Take care!”

IDEA 1: Firstly, I appreciate the emphasis on creating a display window that is not only beautiful and modern but also focuses on maintaining hygiene and organization. The choice of materials, such as wood or MDF in white and durable metal in blue and pink, adds a modern touch.

    However, a few considerations:

    Functionality and Practicality:

The division into three parts for different-sized items is a thoughtful organizational strategy. However, ensure that the sizes and dimensions are practical for the items intended to be displayed. Additionally, the openness of the middle part may pose challenges in maintaining a clean and organized look.
    Removable Supports:

The idea of removable supports for plates, bowls, and glasses is practical for hygiene. Still, make sure these supports are not only easy to clean but also secure and stable during use to prevent accidental detachment.
    Glass Covering and Reflections:

While glass covering enhances visibility, be cautious of potential reflections that might hinder the clear view of displayed items. Consider anti-reflective coatings or positioning to mitigate this issue.
    Rubber Reinforcements:

The rubber reinforcements on glass doors are a good idea to prevent dust, but ensure they integrate seamlessly into the design without being visually intrusive. Consider alternative materials or designs for a more cohesive look.
    Ventilation:

Creating a sealed environment is effective for dust prevention, but consider incorporating subtle ventilation mechanisms to prevent issues related to humidity and condensation, especially if the display will be in diverse environmental conditions.
    LED Lights:

Adding LED lights for visibility is a great idea. Ensure that the lighting is adjustable to highlight different pieces effectively and consider energy-efficient options to avoid generating excess heat.
    Overall Conceptualization:

The concept overall is solid, but make sure the aesthetic coherence aligns with the image you want to project. Consider the overall user experience and practicality in daily use.

IDEA 2: Flexibility and Aesthetic: The emphasis on flexibility, aesthetic, and cleanliness is commendable.

User Accessibility and Pull Out Shelves: The addition of pull-out shelves for increased user accessibility is a practical feature. It would be beneficial to elaborate on how these shelves will be incorporated into the overall design and how they enhance the user experience. You can consider details such as the number of shelves, weight capacity, and ease of use.

Mood Lighting: The incorporation of mood lighting is a great idea to enhance the overall atmosphere. You can specify the type of lighting (e.g., LED, warm white, adjustable colors) and how it will be integrated into the display window. Additionally, you can consider providing controls or settings for users to adjust the lighting according to their preferences.

Glass Doors with Wooden Borders: The recommendation for glass doors with wooden borders in a classical design aligns with the desired theme. You can ensure that the classical design complements the overall aesthetic and that the combination of materials (glass and wood) is harmonious. Consider detailing the specific classical elements in the design of the doors.

Consideration for Cleanliness: While the brief mentions cleanliness, it might be beneficial to provide specific features or design elements that address this concern. For example, you can consider easy-to-clean materials or features that prevent dust accumulation.

Overall Coherence: You can ensure that all the proposed elements, including the classical theme, modern design, pull-out shelves, mood lighting, and glass doors, contribute to a cohesive and unified display window concept. This will help create a harmonious and visually pleasing result that aligns with the goals of flexibility, aesthetics, and cleanliness.

IDEA 3: I like the idea. The design proposal for the display window exhibits a commendable focus on achieving both aesthetic beauty and minimalism, yet could benefit from a more detailed explanation of the specific minimalistic elements incorporated. The emphasis on cleanliness and convenience is laudable, especially with the goal of complete sealing to prevent dust accumulation; however, additional clarification on how the design achieves this, including specific features or materials for easy cleaning, would enhance transparency. The concept of having one cabinet door close atop the other with thin seals and magnets is practical but would benefit from specifying durable materials for these seals. Ensuring stable construction with high-quality materials is crucial for longevity, and specifying the types of materials used would add transparency and reassurance. The use of mirrored lining for a 3D effect is intriguing, but more details on how it enhances the overall aesthetic and its ease of maintenance would be valuable. Additionally, considering the user experience aspect, such as ease of interaction, item accessibility, and cleanliness maintenance, would further enrich the completeness of the design concept.
